Stephen Hirtenstein
Stephen Hirtenstein is a prominent figure in the field of Islamic mysticism, particularly known for his profound understanding of the great Andalusian mystic, Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi. He has been the editor of the Journal of the Muhyiddin Ibn ʿArabi Society since its inception in 1982 and is a co-founder of Anqa Publishing, which is dedicated to bringing out the works of Ibn ‘Arabi and his lineage. Hirtenstein studied History at King’s College, Cambridge, and further pursued esoteric education at the Beshara School. After a career in teaching, he delved into writing and giving talks on Ibn ‘Arabi’s thought at conferences worldwide. Apart from his academic pursuits, he organizes tours following the footsteps of Ibn ‘Arabi. Anqa Publishing aims to provide high-quality translations of classic texts, new editions of Arabic texts, and contemporary writings on Ibn ‘Arabi’s teachings in close collaboration with the Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi Society.
