Over the 1990s, several reasonably good editions of works by the renowned Sufi master Muhyi al-Din Ibn al-Arabi (d. 638/1240) were published in the Arab world, particularly in Cairo and Beirut. However, Arab scholarship still lacks rigorous collation and comparison of variant readings, resulting in a dearth of comprehensive treatments. An example is the 1995 edition of Ibn al-Arabi’s significant work, “K. Manzil al-Mandzil al-Fahwaniya,” edited by Sa’id ‘Abd al-Fattah. This book, likely written in 603/1206-073, appeared in Cairo and sheds light on mystical themes.
